Alicia has a problem. If she wants a job that isn't waiting tables, if she wants to be a somebody instead of a nobody, she needs new eyes. Schoolgirls and businessmen alike are trading in their old fleshsacks for cobalt plated units with laser-blue irises. Eyes that can interpret petabytes of data at a glance. Eyes that record every moment of your life.

But when eye-swapping - and, in turn, memory-swapping - becomes the new street fad, a black market in second-hand eyes flowers overnight... a market that Alicia is drawn into all too quickly. And when there's nobody willing to trade in their eyes?

Business is business. Someone has to make a killing.

They Trade in Eyes is a 2800 word dark cyberpunk short in the vein of William Gibson and Philip K Dick.

Excellent read! A vivid imagination of a plausible future. This was my first Christopher's book and certainly not the last.

They Trade In Eyes eBook Christopher Ruz Reviews

Dark, evocative, and gritty, as well as beautifully written. The narratives simply glide along. Well worth a purchase.
Wow. Just...wow. After reading this story for the first time, I walked around doing my daily errands still lost in the world Christopher Ruz had created. It must have been hours before the feeling of limbo started to wear off, but thoughts of a world where eyes are the new currency kept me up long into the night. The characters are so well written, you are immersed in life as they see it; their twisted and dark society becomes yours and you explore the back alleys with them. This story resonated so much with me that I read it out loud to my best friend (I couldn't trust him to read it himself and I wanted to be sure he heard every wonderful word).
I've always judged a movie to be truly awesome and impacting if I'm still thinking about it the next day. 'They trade in eyes' had me thinking about it for a week afterwards...every time I put my glasses on.

'They Trade in Eyes' urges the imagination to truly explore a reality where bionic eyes are a fashion item, a symbol of status, a means of sharing memories, dreams and lives, while stimulating a sinister black market trade and a degrading and damaging social heirarchy. A dystopian future where nothing is truly private and your soul can easily be stolen.

Christopher Ruz manages a fantastic blend of sci-fi and horror that peaks a morbid curiosity and leaves one relishing in the dark imaginings long after the story has ended. Even though I have never been a big fan of horror (or even sci-fi really, as I've always tended toward fantasy) I found 'They trade in eyes' intriguing and mysterious and an almost guilty pleasure, for finding such morbid realities so enjoyable to explore. I've never before enjoyed being so freaked out.
Very cool story, reminds me of Ray Bradbury's writing. I could see this as a TV short or made into a movie. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Excellent read! A vivid imagination of a plausible future. This was my first Christopher's book and certainly not the last.
